The Wakeham Trust usually awards grants of up to £2,500 to projects that are small scale and would find it hard to get funding from big trusts.
The Trust does not favour any particular areas of activity however they typically do not support: hard-science medical projects, counselling, family-therapy and self-help projects nor arts/performance projects.
They usually look for the following characteristics in a project:
- It is something new for this particular area/community
- It is small
- It does not employ staff. Their website states that if the applicant can afford to employ staff it is probably too big for them
- It is not well established
- It has the potential to become self-supporting
- It is outward looking and helps a lot of people
- It has a UK charity number, or can find a charity to accept funds on its behalf
